Backlink descriptions - what kind of service are you getting?

Backlinks: There are two crucial elements that need to be thoroughly considered when researching incoming links their and relevance with Search Engine Optimization Strategies.
BEFORE you Buy Backlinks, investigate what your are investing in.  It's going to make a HUGE difference in your rankings. You do not want backlinks that offer a SEO campaign of minimum diversity. You also want to know which types of links hold the greatest weight in the Search Engines at the current time you are purchasing them.

The root level domain of an incoming backlink is very important to consider too. Common questions like; Is it a trustworthy site? Does it hold PR through the Page Rank Updates?
Is it a self serving site or does it offer great value to the market as a whole are all important questions. It doesn't matter if you are in a micro niche, or targeting something like Dallas SEO, you still need to have on-page trust.
1. IP Diversity;

Get yourself a healthy I.P. Diversity in your links. An I.P. is an Internet Protocol, a physical address that identifies where your incoming links are coming from. The backlinks that you need when building your link structure should come from the WORLD, not just one area on the map. An incoming link from a website or webpage to yours is a vote!

How much more powerful is your website going to be if your votes are originating worldwide? Write compelling content or launch savvy campaigns to get thousands of different worldwide IP’s and subnets to offer a solid structure in your built links. It’s something that you want to take seriously if you are going to build a strong link foundation.
Having geographical i.p. backlink diversity from trusted authority sites is the #1 rule in your venture to buy backlinks.

2. Link Type & Category;

If your website has taken a dive and your on page SEO is top notch, chances are you probably did not have a good backlink category portfolio in your foundation. Again, we are talking about gaining a solid balance of links. Building 50 thousand one way links all from Twitter is setting yourself up for a de-valued website. That would be horrible and too obvious that you were trying to manipulate the search engines. Hello red flags!

When you are link building, you want to be natural, you want to behave and follow Google's guidelines as closely as possible.

When building a trusted website. It’s important to get as many link categories as you can with backlinks that hold good top level domain Page Rank. When Google shifts weight in their algorithms, you are safer and your rankings will remain stable in the SERPS.

Below is a list of Backlinks and their categories. We have anchored the links to Wiki’s so that you can further research if needed from here. But, in general, this should give you a rough idea of actual value when you buy backlinks and want to get the best R.O.I. possible. We are not talking ‘common names’ of links here like wpmu, pligg, do-follow, no-follow, etc…

But link categories, and how the search engine is going to view them.

  • Contextual Homepage Links ~ Choose these wisely, because if you are caught purchasing links on networks that are built solely for the purpose of ranking, you can get a penalty. In 2012 mid grade networks like BMR, LinkVana, UAW, ALN, and LinxBoss were hit heavily by Google. If you are building links on private networks. Make sure they are absolutely private and you or your SEO company are building them for you and you only. Make them relevant, mix up the anchors, and make sure it's done really really well.
Picture
  • RSS Links ~ This is a highly overlooked but very powerful link category. What is an RSS Link? It’s basically a live feed or technically termed as Really Simple Syndication. Using RSS to your advantage can be a sneaky way of link building and you can add tremendous value to your site if your Search Engine Optimization is integrated with RSS features. Not only does RSS allow you to integrate thousands of urls     flawlessly, but it enables you to interlink your link building structure in a way that is bullet proof to the search engines. This establishes a great stability in your keyword rankings and is a very valuable asset to include in your link building velocity.
  • RSS Blended Links ~ Our favorite, the possibilities here are endless. These are basically using several sources of rss metadata, putting them into a blender and mixing them all up.
  • 3 & 4 Way Links ~ More greatness in viral link building. These are links that are built kind of in a matrix aspect if you will. They are very effective for creating a “community”  style of link building which is very important these days in multi layered link building.
Picture
  • Micro Blog Links - basically these are little “broadcastings” in a blogging sense. Usually a small snippet of content in the form of images, video links, etc… Good for adding a bit more variety over your competition. If you are using Micro Blog links, it's a good idea to adjust your anchors so that they are randomly targeted.
  • I-Frame Links - Hard to find but great to have as part of your profile. Some common places that offer I-frame links are PRWeb, and YouMob.
I-Frame Backlinks
  • Share Document File Links (PDF’s) ~ Another common strategy overlooked in the link building realm. It can be powerful if used in conjunction with pyramid style (multi layered) link building.
Picture
  • Press Release Links ~ Another great way of getting viral links that seem to pass the big G. filters of dupe content. These little 300 word snippets are published on authority “Press” sites and they somehow have the ability to get copied, used, reported, and sometimes reported on physical papers. This can help with both link building and media exposure. Press releases are considered one of the best strategies of link building if applied with good strategy and un-abused.
  • Wordpress Theme Links ~ A viral way of achieving homepage backlinks. One Wordpress Theme can potentially give you more than 10,000 backlinks over time IF the theme is a good theme, distributed to popular free theme sites that rank well in the search engine, and is coded with your link in the theme and cannot be taken out. So there are a lot of “IF” variables here, but if played right, along with other link strategies, this can be a very powerful and viral aspect of link building and can potentially help you dominate some of the toughest keywords in the market. There has been a recent update in the algorithms that causes most savvy link builders to shy away from this type of link building. As this is a "sponsor" on a website it should, like all backlink building be done with a reserved caution depending on the history of the website being linked to. If you sponsor a theme, do NOT put a keyword as your anchor. Instead, use your brand name or just a url reference as the anchor.
  • Blog Posts - In-Contextual Links ~ Since the Google Panda, Contextual Blog Posts Backlinks are very effective if used with good content that is considered 100% unique. If you can find yourself these backlinks on healthy networks that hold PR and index your posts it’s a great value. The better value comes in being able to take these posts url’s and building backlinks to those to create a contextual link pyramid style link system. Blog posts are usually indexed naturally if they carry informative, authoratative, and useful information. Be sure you also have relevant images and videos whenever possible to leverage your link baiting.
Picture
  • Comment Links ~ These links are most effective if you post them in relevant blogs in your niche. What you don’t want to do is buy links with thousands of “spam comments” as this can get your site flagged by Google. If you are using these types of links just make sure you are doing it faithfully by posting valuable and relevant comments inside of your community sites.
  • Wiki Backlinks ~ These links are popular. The reason why is that you can actually participate inside of sites that offer "Wiki" type inner pages where you create your own page on that website. It allows you to hand post and build (using your web browser) your own WYSIWYG which is an acronym of What You See Is What You Get. Basically, you are able to write a unique article on this page, place an image, and anchor a backlink within the content to your site. Why is this important? Because there are a lot of trusted websites that have wiki's, they have high Page Rank, and they have .edu and .gov extensions which means you 'can' build backlinks here if done properly.
  • Do Follow Backlinks ~ We are so tired of hearing the confusion about the difference between do-follow backlinks and no-follow backlinks. There is a misconception that no-follow backlinks are worthless. They are not!
  • Here is the difference, and all other details about this do not matter when it comes to link building: A do-follow backlink will pass pr juice from 'second or third tier links'. So if you have a Wordpress blog with a nice PR5 backlink in an article, backlinking to this article is going to pass link juice through the your anchor text (your backlink), to your site. This is do-follow. The juice is 'following'  from the 2nd tier to the 1st tier and then to your site. No-follow backlinks still pass link juice, but only at the first level. You can't expect to build backlinks underneath this no-follow backlink and have it pass the link velocity. Get it? They are both valuable backlinks, they are both used differently in a backlink service or campaign. They both add value to your link profile.
  • Url Shorteners ~ Do these little guys pass link juice? The answer is a big yes. We love these links because they are good for posting quick blurps, inner urls, mashed rss feeds, and other nifty backlinks through great services like PixelPipe. Notice that Matt Cutts clearly states his reasoning about passing link juice. What he mentioned here that we thought was great information was "load time". Hello ON PAGE SEO!
  • Pad File Links (Portable Application Description) ~ This is a downloadable (shareware) software that is built for automating things in the business world. These subsets of XML’s can be submitted into the PAD extension directories. So in a sense, this is a directory submission but with a twist and can be powerful for indexing and other linking strategies if used correctly.
Picture
  • Article Directory Links ~ These types of links are good for linking in a sense that it can give you a great deal of IP diversity which is very important. Article do not hold near the value as they did in 2010, however, they should still be implemented into your strategy. If you are targeting specific countries, article directory submissions are best to be done manually.
  • Blog Roll (site wide) Links ~ These links use to be a very good tactic in link strategy. Although they don’t hold nearly as much weight anymore, they still hold a great deal of juice when competing for tougher terms and you are having to add to your overall arsenal of diversity. But, if you gain a site wide backlink, make sure it's an anchor with your brand name or url only. Targeting a keyword on a site wide is a big no no in SEO.
  • Forum Signature Links ~ A good little link building secret used for giving your keywords a bit of a surge in the SERPS. We don’t suggest this as a sole strategy but it is good for certain instances. If you are Forum Signature Linking, do NOT use automation, you will end up with your link on non-relevant platforms, and you might as well be comment spamming. Make them manual, on real profile signatures offering good discussions in a forum thread.
Picture
  • Ad Links & Classified Links / Image Ad Links ~ These are great to use on heavily trafficked websites that are relevant to your keywords. Just make sure that you know what you are paying for and that your link is anchored as a “do-follow” inside of your image ad. This method can work for traffic but it can be de-valued by the search engines if you are using this type of strategy too much. Also, these links are often no-follow links.
  • Social Media Signals & Links ~ The search engines are heightening their focus and weight towards the Social part of the web. So yes, these links are important to have in link building. Having at least the basics like Google +1, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, StumbleUpon, Digg, and Pinterest are vital to your linking. Also, most of these take a social widget for the link, like, or tweet to count. So, if you want that signal to boost your SERPS, make sure you install a social widget on your site.
  • Video Links ~ Youtube, Viddler, and other Video distribution sites that sometimes offer url (addresses) as references. These types of backlinks are healthy for your profile and offer a great value of both link baiting, brand media attraction, and visual stimulation to your user. Place them on your website, get them syndicated through your SEO company, and even embed them into your press releases whenever possible. The more customized videos you have out there means the more traffic you will get overtime.
  • Web2.0 & Social Media Profile Links ~ These come from great authority sites like Squidoo, Wordpress, Tumblr, and Blogger.com. They are exceptional for posting unique content and receiving a backlink (editorial vote) from. This is because these sites often hold a high pr in their root domain which passes good link juice to your site. It's wise to build them in quality with custom images, videos, css tweaks, good meta descriptions, and custom banners. 1stLevelBacklinks offers a great $49 package in this category. And because the Web2.0's are built by hand, and freshly maintained every month with new content and images, it makes a world of difference in a good stabilization of your SERPS. This is because it builds a brand name foundation for your profile and is nearly a 'must have' in link building.
  • Editorial Links ~ links coming from websites that hold a great amount of expertise on the worldwide web. These links are often considered high treasured guest blog posts except they are into the $400 dollar and up range per link. But, if you have the budget, and you can do this on a quarterly basis, have your Editorial link placed on a high authority and relevant platform. This will not only give you a powerful inbound link and bring your relevant traffic, but build your trust with Google and the public.
  • Lastly, the thing that you need to know about backlinks that is going to save you a lot of money is that you must be aware that there are services out there that are charging way too much money for a lot of spam links. Be wise, be smart, and research well.
  • You should have as many of these types of links as you can.  Knowing more about backlinks allows you to know how to better direct yourself in the search engine marketing process.
